Growing up, my mom taught me that all my dreams could come true. What I had to do is to work hard and always bet on myself. That's what I did - and since then, every dream or goal I've had has come true.
Looking back at the 8 years old me walking in the streets of Yamoussoukro selling articles, I never thought I'd realise this dream: Work for Google.
In fact, until March 2019, I didn't even know there were real humans behind the “search bar” I go to satisfy my curiosity anytime I wanted for free.
It was via the movie “The Internship” that I found out that behind the “search bar” real humans like me were working. I found the mission and atmosphere really cool and I wanted to be part of it.
So, without telling anyone about my Dream aside my mom, I dropped out of law school and moved to Rwanda to attend The African Leadership University with the aim to become fluent in English and learn how to be an ethical leader.
4 years later, my dream has half come true. In June 2022, I received an offer to join Google as an intern in the Sub-Saharan Africa team based in Dublin.
I still remember this day, I was with my girlfriend, I call my mum and said: “Allo Maman, Nga gna letiri soro bi” (E.g: Hi, Mum I got my offer). She replies “Eh Allah nitche, biye Lodoumanye” (E.g: Thanks Allah - today is an happy day) and start crying, me too.
We continue talking and I explain her that, it’s a 3 months internship and due to visa issue I won't be with the team in-person - I will be based in London. She replies: “Onafa Kagni, côfê Ibena ossoriyi” (E.g: That’s not bad, later you will join them).
Mom was right, in June 2023, I officially became a Googler. What was just a dream five years ago has become reality.
At Google, beyond meeting super smart and nice people, what impressed me the most was the passion and common goal of making the world a better place for everyone.
After hundreds of coffee chat, introspection, a flight home and hours of intensive work with my 3 friends, I finally discovered my next DREAM: YeleGroup.
At YeleGroup, our mission is to build the largest and most profitable organization in Africa, change the lives of over a billion people and inspire the next generation of African entrepreneurs.
Will we be able to turn this DREAM into reality? For the moment, I can't say, but one thing is sure: we're ready to give 110% every day and enjoy every step of the journey.
